Update on Kev.
Kevin’s sisters here, Meghan & Molly. We are writing with an update regarding recent events. A little over a week ago, Kevin fell ill with what was thought to be a stomach bug. After a few days of little to no improvement, Kevin and Tessa went to the Emergency Room. On Thursday, October 5th, Kevin was admitted to United Hospital in Saint Paul, and they began running several diagnostic tests. A CT of his abdomen showed an issue with his colon that would require immediate surgery. The decision to proceed with surgery is not made lightly by the care team or Kevin and Tessa, as the risks are significant with an ALS patient. On Saturday, Kevin underwent emergency abdominal surgery in which they had to remove a relatively large portion of his colon. Once again, Kevin showed up with his undeniable strength and fight. He is truly remarkable.
Currently, Kevin remains stable in the ICU at United Hospital. We could not be more pleased with the physicians and nurses at United Hospital. They have been compassionate, respectful, responsive, and skilled in the care they’re providing.
Kevin, Tessa, and our entire family appreciate all the love and support. We know how loved Kevin is by his friends and extended family, but for now, we’re limiting visitors to immediate family only. We’ll stay in touch with updates, but don’t hesitate to contact either of us.
